After spending fifteen years building his career as part of the Seattle rock scene, guitarist Dudley Taft made the decision to turn his attention to the music that had inspired him as a teenager. So, for the last five years, he has been honing his version of rocking blues with an attitude.
The first cut serves notice that Taft’s music is not for the faint of heart. The crunching guitar chords that open “Ain’t No Game” would be right at home on a Black Sabbath disc. Taft belts out his frustration at his lover’s failure to treat him right. Next up is an interesting take on “Back Door Man” with Taft expertly channeling the SRV guitar style and sound. The same approach is used the next tune, “Broken Down”, a Taft original. His cover of “Have You Ever Lover a Woman” takes you deep into the pain of human heart as he wrings plenty of emotion out of his guitar’s fretboard. The cut benefits from the presence of Frank Holman on the Hammond B3 organ.
